TABNAK, Sep, 04: Iran’s electric and hybrid cars output reached 1200 during the first five months of Iranian calendar year (March 22, 2024- August 21, 2024), he said, adding, the number is expected to increase to 5.000 by next March.
Earlier this year, shipments of imported hybrid cars arrived on Iran’s Qeshm Island. All the imported vehicles are brand new models and some of the imported cars (including Toyota Corolla, different models of Mercedes-Benz, Toyota SHR, Toyota Camry, Lexus (UX) and 18 models of vans) will be used in the public transportation fleet.
Back in February, the Manager of the Electric Vehicle Project of the Industry Ministry Hasan Karimi-Sanjari said Iran’s public transportation fleet is expected to receive 2,500 electric vehicles.
A few days ago, CEO of Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) Javad Najmeddin announced the company plans to massproduce Micro-hybrid Samand in near future.
"Hybrid development is a part of IKCO"s approach toward modern technology to reduce fossil fuel consumption," he said, adding, "Start-stop system is the main specification of micro-hybrid cars," Najmeddin said.
Hybrid car production is a part of IKCO's strategy to confront the price rise of energy carriers following the Rationalization of Subsidies Plan in Iran.
Last year, 55 micro-hybrid Samands were produced, all of which passed different types of tests successfully.
